Transponders
Transponders are used on many modern cars to protect against theft of cars. The chip transmits the signal which is detected by a pair of coils fitted around the ignition barrel inside the vehicle. The coils are activated when the key is within range and send a signal of electromagnetic energy to the transponder chip. The chip then responds by sending an individual identification number to the car. The unique code can be used to unlock doors or start the car.
In World War 2, a similar technology was employed to help air traffic control detect military planes on radar. This kind of chip messages are still used in the aviation industry.
These systems were believed to be clone-proof until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. The technology behind these chips was enhanced, and they no longer have replicable. This has prompted many locksmiths in the auto industry to improve their knowledge by learning how to read and write these more advanced chips.
Immobilisers
